Senior Datacentre Design Director
Responsibilities:
- Datacentre Design and Strategy:
- Lead the architectural design and planning of datacenter facilities to meet AWE's specific security, redundancy, and scalability needs.
- Develop long-term strategies for infrastructure and datacenter expansions, upgrades, and lifecycle management, ensuring alignment with AWE's mission-critical needs.
- Ensure designs incorporate advanced data security, regulatory compliance, and energy-efficient practices.
- Project Leadership and Delivery:
- Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies, budgeting, and resource allocation to project execution, commissioning, and handover.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, and security, to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Establish project milestones and deliverables, ensuring that all datacenter projects align with AWE's strategic and technical requirements.
- Risk and Compliance Management:
- Conduct risk assessments for all phases of datacenter design, ensuring compliance with AWE's stringent security and operational standards.
- Ensure data centers meet regulatory, safety, and environmental standards, including redundancy and resilience to natural and man-made risks.
- Develop disaster recovery, business continuity, and backup strategies tailored to high-security environments.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on datacenter technologies, design methodologies, and industry best practices, incorporating innovation into AWE's datacenter projects.
- Develop and implement best practices for operational efficiency, including energy consumption, cooling systems, and load management.
- Identify and address improvement areas to enhance facility reliability and efficiency over time.
- Stakeholder and Vendor Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all datacenter design-related matters, liaising with internal stakeholders, government bodies, and external vendors.
- Manage relationships with contractors and vendors, ensuring they meet AWE's quality and security standards.
- Facilitate communication across teams and departments, promoting collaborative planning and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Extensive experience in datacenter design, construction, and management, ideally with 15+ years in high-security or mission-critical environments. Proven track record in directing large-scale, secure datacenter projects.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of datacenter architecture, power and cooling systems, network infrastructure, high-availability designs, and redundancy planning.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams, complex projects, and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Compliance and Security: Expert knowledge of regulatory and security requirements for high-security datacenters, including data protection, cybersecurity, and resilience standards.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer, Certified Data Centre Management Professional) are advantageous.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
