The Company:

At Amber Labs, we are a cutting-edge UK and European technology consultancy that prioritises empowering autonomy, promoting experimentation, and facilitating rapid learning to provide exceptional value to our clients. Our company culture is centred around collaboration, where all colleagues, regardless of their role, work together to minimise risk and shorten delivery times. Our team consists of highly-skilled cross-functional consultants, analysts, and support staff.

The role:

We are looking for an experienced User Researcher to join our team and contribute to the delivery of user-centred digital services. You will play a key role in shaping the design and development of products, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with the needs of diverse users. With a design-led approach, you will guide services through the discovery phase and beyond, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and embedding research insights into the product lifecycle.

This role requires someone who understands the unique needs of public sector users and has a proven ability to work within the Government Digital Service (GDS) framework, including delivering outputs for the discovery phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the voice of the user throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring decisions are informed by user insights.
  • Take a design-led approach to user engagement, contrasting with traditional requirements or business analysis methodologies.
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including Product Managers, Content Designers, and Interaction Designers.
  • Integrate user research findings into the product development process to guide decision-making.
  • Analyse and synthesise research data, delivering clear and actionable insights.
  • Involve colleagues in the analysis and synthesis process to foster consensus and challenge assumptions.
  • Advocate for the diversity of public sector users, prioritising inclusive research practices.
  • Ensure research includes participants from various backgrounds and abilities to deliver accessible services.
  • Select and apply appropriate research methods tailored to the project phase and requirements.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a User Researcher in a public sector or GDS context.
  • Familiarity with the GDS framework and standards, with a strong understanding of the discovery phase and its deliverables.
  • Experience synthesising research findings into key deliverables, including recommendations, insights, and supporting evidence.
  • Ability to contribute to business analysis efforts, such as reviewing workflows, processes, and roadmaps to identify gaps and dependencies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for user-centred design.
  • Commitment to inclusive research practices, ensuring accessibility and diversity are prioritised.

Diversity & Inclusion:

Here at Amber Labs, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace for all. Our commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion includes:

  • Valuing the unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds of all employees and creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
  • Prohibiting all forms of harassment, bullying, discrimination, and victimisation and promoting a culture of dignity and respect for all.
  • Educating all new hires on our Diversity and Inclusion policies and ensuring they are aware of their rights and responsibilities to create a safe and inclusive workplace.
  • By taking these steps, we are dedicated to building a workplace that reflects and celebrates the diversity of our employees and communities.
